Staff within our Kinross nursery have recently undertaken an introduction to sign language course.

They have been learning key word manual signs and gestures that are commonly used with children who experience communication, language and learning difficulties.

Children who learn to sign are thought to gain additional psychological benefits such as improved confidence and self- esteem. Anger may also reduce as children are gifted a greater ability to communicate their feelings which in turn, encourages the child’s development.

This was a staff initiative to meet the needs of their children. As lots of children take part in Sing and Sign classes as babies, this was a way to continue to develop the children’s existing skills.

The staff in our nursery enjoyed the course so much that further sessions will be booked to develop and build on the knowledge gained.
